Android can't do a camera overlay?
Am I understanding this correctly? Can Android not handle a camera overlay? Not even a simple one like text and maybe a custom button to fire the shutter?

That is correct. Not at this time.

It seems that it's fixed in the upcoming 1.7 SDK:

I was able to get a overlay to work on Android with a click eventhandler to capture the image. However, on my test android device (Nexus One) the autofocus does not work when an overlay is used. Thus, I'm unable to use an overlay since the photo comes out blurry.

overlay workes but the image is distorted.

I developed a Plugin for phonegap to do that - hope you guys implement it right into your apis.Any news on that?
