error: can't allocate region

I'm getting the following crash:

[23:27:12:078] [Titanium.PHP] [Debug] preprocessing php => app://ex/index.php
Personal Schedule Manager(62193,0xb030b000) malloc: mmap(size=3536347136) failed (error code=12) error: can't allocate region

Note that I'm trying to parse a 4MB xml file, so I'm thinking maybe there is an upper bound of memory usage somewhere. Any ideas?
