Universal iPhone/iPad apps

Can we have a statement from Appcelerator on if/when universal apps will be an option? At the moment we're forced to release a separate application if we want to take advantage of the full iPad screen size. Aside from breeding discontent with our customers for being forced to pay twice to use the app effectively on both their iPhone and iPad, building separately for each device represents a bigger maintenance burden, and it's not something we can undo: once we've released separate apps for those devices, customers on both platforms will expect updates, so we are effectively locked in to the extra work. If universal support is not too far off then it may make sense as a developer to hold off until it arrives. I know you guys are very busy, but some clarification on this matter would be appreciated.

  • It's ticketed now, so you can track it's progress and monitor when it is put on the roadmap for a specific release.

At this point I don't know that you can expect it in 1.4.0, however.

  • All I'm after is an about - if universal apps will come in the next 2 months then I'll just ask my users to wait, if they're far off then I'll have to bite the bullet and release separate apps.

  • Thanks - I guess I'll wait for a month and see if a more definite timeframe comes up.

  • I fully agree. Would also like to see Universal app support (even more important than Android tablet support for me - at this moment).
