Gradient color value explanation? #000000 is transparent?

Messing around with gradientBackgrounds and I noticed that if I use the color code '#000' (black) it comes up transparent, whereas if I use '#010101' it comes up black.

Can someone explain how the transparency works with gradients?

  • I have also noticed this, but have no explanation for it. Both #000000 and #ffffff seem to be transparent ?!?
